How to Tabulate Disciplines by Score

Twirlmate supports two styles of tabulation: by score and by place. This article walks you through the process of tabulating a discipline by score. But first, here's a brief explanation of how this works under the hood.

How Score-Based Tabulation Works

Score-based tabulation adds up all caption scores on a scoresheet and subtracts the total penalties to arrive at a final score. Twirlmate then sorts contestants by final score (highest to lowest), and places them accordingly.

For multi-judge score-based tabulation (such as for advanced all-around/pageant disciplines or team disciplines), Twirlmate calculates the caption scores/penalties from each scoresheet, places contestants for each judge as separate lists, and combines their placement points to determine the overall winner (whoever has the lowest combined placement points, wins).

If two or more contestants have the same combined placement points and the discipline is not part of an all-around or pageant, the combined total score from all judges from each contestant will break the tie. If two or more contestants have the same combined total score as well, the tie stands.

Now, here's how to tabulate by score.

1. Find the discipline

The page for discipline tabulation is located in the "{year} Results" section of the left navigation menu. On that page, you'll find a list of all disciplines for which contestants have registered this year.

Clicking on the name of a discipline will take you to a new page .

2. Find the division

On the discipline page, you'll find a list of divisions in which contestants are competing.

For each division, you can see its current tabulation status, which might be:

  • Scheduled (no results yet)

  • Judging Complete (scores are entered and finalized, but no places have been awarded yet)

  • Tabulation Complete (scores are in and placed are awarded, but not published yet)

  • Results published (visible in the attendee portal).

Clicking on the name of a division will take you to a new page.

3. Find the master scoresheet

On the division page, you'll find a list of master scoresheets as well as contestants, along with a read-only version of the master results.

To enter/update results, click the name of the judge in the masters table or the Enter Scores button. This will take you to a new page.

4. Find the contestant

On the master scoresheet page, you'll find a list of contestants along with another read-only version of the master results. Clicking a contestant's name will take you to their scoresheet on a new page.

5. Fill out the scoresheet

On the contestant scoresheet page, enter vitals (costume color, number of team members, etc), caption scores, penalties, and time.

Note on penalties: numbers entered in the penalties section should reflection the number of infractions, not the number of points deducted. Deductions are calculated automatically.

Note on time: The bottom right corner of the page contains a field for entering the minutes and seconds of the contestant's performance time. If the scoresheet has a specific time limit visible above the time field, undertime and overtime penalties will be calculated automatically.

Once you have filled out all appropriate fields, click "Save and Score Next" to see the next contestant's scoresheet according to performance order, or click "Save and Return to Master" to go back to the master.

6. Finalize the master

Once you've given all active contestants scores, click the "Finalize for Review" button to indicate that all scores are in. You will then be taken to the division page.

7. Place contestants

On the division page, once you've entered all contestant scores and finalized all masters, click Place Contestants at the top of the Contestants table. This will tabulate final placement.

8. Print and publish results

If you'd like to print and/or publish the results in the attendee portal, click the Print and Publish Results button at the top of the division page. You will be taken to a new page to perform either of these actions.

Attendees will not see the results until they are published.

Congratulations! You've successfully tabulated a discipline by score with Twirlmate!
